Online Wildfire Resources
"Wildland-Urban Fire—A different approach" - a USDA publication which forms the basis for a compelling argument for a different approach to addressing the wildland-urban fire problem. It argues for residential compatibility with wildland fire rather than the necessary prevention of fire encroachment on the community.
Firewise.org: a multi-agency effort designed to reach beyond the fire service by involving homeowners, community leaders, planners, developers, and others in the effort to protect people, property, and natural resources from the risk of wildland fire - before a fire starts.

Free Woodchipping Services
The Park City Fire Department is once again offering free chipping of cut brush and wood for Summit County Residents. Just call 435-649-6706 ext 149 to set up an appointment.
Please follow these guidelines:
Stack brush & branches on roadside, cut ends facing downhill.
No construction material, no nails.
No wire or cord in stack.
No larger than eight inches, please.
Trunks must have branches removed.
Christmas trees must have branches removed.
Keep the chips as mulch, or they will remove.
1.Continue a proactive approach to fire preparedness and hazard mitigation through education while promotion a health forest ecosystem.
2.Encourage and advertise the benefits of the chipping program.
3.Continue dialog with local agencies to develop a comprehensive evacuation plan for SP.
4.Have 2 signs in place in order to remind residents of our responsibilities as homeowners.
5.Verify and look into possible enforcement of Summit County’s adoption of requirements and ordinances for new construction in the Urban Interface. Does the PCFD review development plans prior to approval?
6.Understand that the protection of individual homeowners and our community through fire preparedness and fuel mitigation is a long term process and one size does not fit all. Measurable criteria with attainable goals must be established keeping in mind our communities diversity.
